About The Position

The NOC Intern position at FirstLight Fiber involves providing first-level technical support to both residential and business clients within the Network Operations Center. The intern will work with advanced telecommunications technology and collaborate with various stakeholders to resolve issues in the production network. This role requires a basic understanding of network operations and the ability to follow instructions under general supervision.

Requirements

• Working towards an associate or bachelor's degree in a technical field with network-related coursework.
• Basic knowledge of Ethernet and IP, with a fundamental understanding of layers 1-4 of the OSI model.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented and highly organized.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks consistently.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, document, and diagnose trouble calls to resolve service-affecting issues across multiple service platforms.
• Participate in a technical call queue and document information on all incoming calls in a ticketing system.
• Manage trouble tickets by creating, resolving, escalating, and tracking them through to resolution.
• Develop extensive knowledge of the company's products and services to assist customers effectively.
• Oversee and participate in network maintenance, ensuring customers are informed and confirming service restoration after maintenance activities.
• Troubleshoot network events and outages on various equipment including IP routers and Ethernet switches.
• Operate in a 24X7 Network Operations Center, including shift work and off-peak coverage.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and training.
