About The Position

The Scientist II position at USP is a non-supervisory technical role within the Product Quality and Analytical Methods department. The primary responsibility is to conduct laboratory work focused on the research, evaluation, development, and validation of procedures that support USP's digital products and services, particularly in analyzing the identity, strength, and purity of small molecule and biologic drug substances. This role emphasizes collaboration, technical expertise in analytical techniques, and a commitment to public health and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field with four years of experience, or a Master's degree with two years of experience.
  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience with separation analyses such as HPLC and UPLC.
  • Experience with spectroscopic analyses such as NMR and IR.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a fast-paced environment with multi-layered priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Experience in the compendial, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industry.
  • Experience in GLP or ISO regulated laboratories.
  • Familiarity with Empower chromatography software and Electronic Laboratory Notebook Software.
  • Experience with MNova and NMR analysis software.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently to evaluate, develop, and validate spectroscopic procedures for analysis of drug substances.
  • Plan and implement experiments, providing input and drawing conclusions on results with the project team.
  • Assess submitted procedures based on method verification and support the review of final drafts.
  • Apply personal experience and academic training to address technical problems.
  • Collaborate in a team setting to achieve project goals.
  • Demonstrate a strong desire for continuous learning and seek opportunities for personal growth.
  • Participate and present at internal and external scientific meetings.
  • Share technical expertise with laboratory staff and cross-train on methods.
  • Recommend and implement creative approaches to improve laboratory operations.
