Job Overview The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) is recruiting for its Summer 2026 Internship Program, featuring several internship opportunities across a range of divisions, including Economic Transformation, Operations, Legal Affairs & Compliance, Community Development, and Chief of Staff/External Affairs. This program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting high-impact initiatives that drive economic growth, support small businesses, and strengthen communities across New Jersey. Interns will be placed within teams based on their interests, background, and business needs, and will contribute to a variety of projects such as research, program support, data analysis, and cross-functional initiatives. Whether your interests are in policy, operations, community engagement, legal, or business development, NJEDA’s internship program provides exposure to the inner workings of a mission-driven public agency. This is a paid remote/hybrid internship.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; proficient in grammar, spelling and editing; and foster communications with business professionals and EDA staff
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constraints with little or no supervision
  • Ability to analyze data, prepare data visualization materials and other relevant documentation for the sector leaders
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA staff
  • Demonstrates respectful behavior and promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff and external customers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software packages
  • Enrollment in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program
  • Ability to review and edit pro formas in Microsoft Excel.
  • MS Office proficiency is a must; advanced proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and CRM are desired.
  • NJEDA utilizes Microsoft as the core application platform and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
  • Staff are required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essentials duties of the position.
  • Foreign degrees/transcripts must be evaluated by a reputable evaluation service at your own expense and must be submitted prior to a start date. If this cannot be provided within 21 days of an offer the offer will be rescinded.
  • Must comply with the “New Jersey First Act” which requires employees hired after September 1, 2011, to reside in New Jersey. Non-New Jersey resident employees must relocate to New Jersey within one year of their date of hire and provide proof of residency to Human Resources.
  • Must complete an Outside Activity Questionnaire (disclosure of outside office or employment) on an annual basis.
  • Must review the required NJ State Ethics Guidelines found on the state website.
  • Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on a variety of assigned topics aligned with divisional priorities, including economic development, operations, legal and compliance, and community-focused initiatives
  • Works closely with sector leaders on industry issues, initiatives and policy discussions
  • Support the team in daily operational tasks and ensure compliance with organizational procedures.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new operational strategies to enhance productivity.
  • Write policy memos to distill research, policy recommendations, and other information.
  • Engage in stakeholder outreach to help develop and advance special projects.
  • Performs research on competitor state policies and programs
  • Promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative, and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff, and external customers.
  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.
  • Reports to department Director, or their delegates.
