The Nightshift Metal Finishing Operator is primarily responsible for the safe operation of various manufacturing processes, including electroplating, polishing, and induction hardening. This role is crucial in meeting established production quality and productivity requirements. The operator will set up, operate, and tend to manufacturing equipment, ensuring that all processes are conducted safely and efficiently. The position requires adherence to strict quality control measures and the ability to operate machinery according to specified guidelines. In this role, the operator will tend to one or more machine tools or special-purpose equipment to coat metal workpieces to specifications on a production basis. This includes observing gauges to ensure that machines are functioning correctly and making necessary adjustments or stopping machines when issues arise. The operator will run work orders in the assigned sequence, with deviations only permitted by the shift supervisor or work area lead. Throughout the shift, productivity information must be recorded in accordance with company expectations, and any drops in productivity must be reported to the supervisor. The operator will also participate in Continuous Improvement and Quality Assurance initiatives, reading and adhering to blueprints or job orders. Identifying nonconforming dimensions and properly tagging all nonconforming parts is essential. The role requires a strong understanding of raw materials, production processes, and quality control techniques, as well as the ability to apply inspection processes to verify conformance to specifications. A mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of various tools used in the machining process are also necessary for success in this position.
