The purpose of this position is to leverage the expertise of a highly experienced Surgical Registered Nurse who has recently retired and is motivated to share their knowledge with newer nurses within the organization. This role involves delivering professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures. A caregiver in this position works days, from 7:00am—3:30pm.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN, BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • 3 years of experience in the ASC OR RN position at Cleveland Clinic immediately prior to retirement
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (willing to obtain upon rehire)
  • For those caring for pediatric population, completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through American Heart Association (AHA) upon rehire (If assigned in a circulator role, ACLS and PALS are not required)

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical nursing in the Ambulatory Surgery Center.
  • Oversee the clinical practice of nursing in the ASC including assessing patient care needs and planning the delivery of care.
  • Perform circulating functions, such as monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing the overall nursing care of patients before, during and after a procedure.
  • Prepare ORs, surgical instruments and equipment for use.
  • Perform scrub functions, such as the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during the procedure.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Provide health education to patients and families.
  • Process patients through the ASC.
