About The Position

The Sanitation Supervisor at Hickman’s is responsible for ensuring that all sanitation associates are properly trained, working safely, and following GMPs, SOPs, HACCP, and SQF requirements during the PM shift. This role ensures all sanitization tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company safety rules and regulatory standards. The Sanitation Lead oversees operations and ensures the facility is ready for processing each day.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and ability to direct sanitation associates.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, SOPs, HACCP, SQF, and FDA sanitation requirements.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and assign workers effectively.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Attention to detail with equipment inspections and compliance verification.
  • Ability to identify and enforce safety and sanitation policies.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical handling and compliance with SDS.
  • Ability to manage supplies and resources efficiently.
  • Previous experience in sanitation or food processing preferred.
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of occupational and food safety standards required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout shift.
  • Capability to handle sanitation equipment, tools, and cleaning supplies.
  • Perform inspections in confined or elevated spaces (e.g., machines, belts, drains).
  • Must be able to work in a food-processing environment with exposure to chemicals, water, and varying temperatures.

Nice To Haves

  • Training and/or certifications in PIT (Powered Industrial Truck), LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), or related fields is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example and assist sanitation associates in completing SSOP #523 duties.
  • Ensure all employees follow SDS, PPE, and company safety requirements.
  • Assist with preparations to ensure sanitation work begins on time.
  • Support Manager with training, orientation, and onboarding of new sanitation workers.
  • Assign workers to appropriate tasks based on skill, training, and operational needs.
  • Oversee sanitation operations and report safety or equipment concerns to management.
  • Enforce company policies related to safety, food safety, quality, food security, and lock out/tag out.
  • Monitor productivity and apply corrective measures, including progressive discipline if necessary.
  • Track and monitor usage of sanitation supplies, reporting inventory needs to the Manager.
  • Identify and recommend additional training or certifications (e.g., PIT, LOTO).
  • Communicate effectively with Management regarding policies, productivity, maintenance, and staffing needs.
  • Ensure the set up and assembly of all cookers, chillers and peelers after cleaning, are correct to include water valves, and steam valves to ensure they are in the correct position for CIP.
  • Perform and oversee daily discharge and compliance of CIP and Brine systems, ensuring proper pH levels.
  • Inspect equipment (e.g., machines, loaders, belts, floors, drains) and ensure corrective cleaning actions are taken before reassembly.
  • Verify sanitation work is complete at the end of each shift, in compliance with FDA standards for ready-to-eat facilities.
  • Ensure the facility is ready for processing operations on time each day.
  • Reassemble machinery and conduct final reviews to confirm compliance.
  • Document POST OP inspection findings and complete unfinished cleaning log duties (#095).
