About The Position

Directs and facilitates the flow of respiratory care activities of assigned shift to ensure optimal quality, cost, and service outcomes. Evaluates prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development, and other identified needs in accordance with recognized techniques and established procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved school of Respiratory Therapy with a Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care or other -related specialty and five (5) years related experience, to include at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and maintain credentials with the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as well as licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Must have current BLS and ACLS.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, forecasts, and directs the respiratory care activities on a specific shift.
  • Identifies staffing and equipment requirements.
  • Assigns personnel to required areas.
  • Maintains clinical competencies to include direct patient care when necessary/appropriate.
  • Routinely enforces established hospital, departmental, and sectional policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Acts as a resource person for other personnel providing knowledge expertise to effect optimal utilization of sectional resources.
  • Assesses employee performance.
  • Counsels, mentors, and coaches shift personnel; recommends promotion or disciplinary action.
  • Participates in the recruitment process.
  • Discusses orders for respiratory care with physicians, nurses, supervisors.
  • Participates as a member of the code and rapid response team.
  • Operates and modifies, as necessary, all respiratory care equipment.
  • Assists with the clinical training of respiratory care students and orientation of new employees.
  • Assists in consultation for home care, percussion, and postural drainage patients.
  • Performs arterial puncture for blood gas analysis.
  • Participates in patient rounds.
  • Attends and participates in continuing education programs.
  • Participates in data collection and productivity reports.
  • Responsible for maintenance of arterial blood gas machines.
  • Responsible for code cart during and after all active codes.
  • Monitors charge capture.
