Our sawmill facility is looking for a skilled Planer Tool Setter to join our Night Shift team and play a critical role in producing high-grade lumber. The Planer Tool Setter is responsible for setting up, adjusting, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial planer machines to ensure optimal performance and lumber quality. This role requires strong mechanical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced sawmill environment.

Requirements

Previous experience setting tools on an industrial planer machine (sawmill experience preferred)
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Knowledge of lumber grades, defects, and manufacturing processes
Ability to read measuring tools and maintain precise tolerances
Ability to work independently on night shift with minimal supervision
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, and work in an industrial environment

Responsibilities

Set up and adjust planer heads, knives, and tooling to meet production specifications
Inspect lumber for defects and ensure proper sizing and grading standards
Perform knife changes, grinding coordination, and tool alignment
Monitor planer performance and make real-time adjustments as needed
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and work closely with maintenance when required
Maintain accurate measurements and tolerances
Ensure consistent production of quality lumber (preferably pine experience)
Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work area
Complete required documentation and shift reports
