The Night Custodian is responsible for maintaining buildings and facilities in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition during overnight hours. This role includes routine cleaning, minor maintenance, and general custodial tasks to ensure facilities are secure and ready for use the following day.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly during overnight hours

Responsibilities

  • Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms according to established procedures
  • Dust, clean, and wipe furniture, walls, ceilings, woodwork, and fixtures
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain all floor surfaces
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and transport waste to designated disposal areas
  • Vacuum meeting rooms and clean glassware using dishwashing equipment
  • Strip, clean, buff, seal, and finish hard surface floors; shampoo carpets as needed
  • Replace light bulbs and report maintenance issues when identified
  • Operate and maintain custodial equipment including vacuums, auto scrubbers, buffers, mops, brooms, and other hand and power tools
  • Wash walls, equipment, and accessible interior and exterior windows; dust blinds
  • Use ladders safely when required for assigned tasks
  • Lock and unlock buildings; ensure facilities are secure by checking doors and windows and reporting unauthorized occupants
  • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed
  • Read and follow chemical labels and safety instructions; use cleaning products as directed
  • Respond to emergencies when necessary
  • Attend required safety meetings, training sessions, and classes on cleaning techniques, new products, and First Aid
  • Properly handle recycling materials
  • Assist with inventory control and facility security
  • Safely operate all job-related equipment
