About The Position

Position Type: Part-Time Pay Range: $28.00+ DOE Work Schedule: 5:00PM - 11:00PM M-F Experience: At least 2 years experience in a trailer trailer combination vehicle is required; a hazmat endorsement is a plus. Our PM drivers work mostly at the LAX Cargo terminals picking up and delivering air freight shipments. They also complete pick ups and deliveries at customer locations in the South Bay area between LAX and Compton. Our Class A Drivers report to the Operations Manager and support the operations department in the performance of daily activities by operating a truck with a 53-foot swing door trailer to perform pick-ups, deliveries and recovery of freight in a time-sensitive and professional manner. Class A Drivers maintain accurate, up-to-date records such as Vehicle Inspection Reports, daily manifests, and incident reports. The Class A Driver may be responsible for loading and unloading freight and for reporting accurate dimensions and weight of freight. California Sierra Express has been serving the air freight logistics industry for over 35 years. We operate five freight terminals in CA and one in Reno, NV. We're an overnight carrier serving international and domestic freight forwarders as a final mile Pick-Up and Delivery agent for shipments that travel around the globe. You'll be joining a local team of over 30 people all committed to providing the best service possible to our customers who trust Cal Sierra to move their shipments on-time throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

Requirements

  • Class A Driver
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Must be at least 23 years of age.
  • Minimum of two (2) years commercial driving experience.
  • Clean DMV record (no serious moving violations in the past 5 years)
  • Valid DOT Medical Examination Card.
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screen and TSA background check.
  • Knowledge of DOT, FMSCA, federal, state, and local traffic laws and regulations.
  • Experience driving in adverse weather conditions, mountains, and chaining installation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English; verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Hazardous materials (HAZMAT) certification, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned route in a timely manner.
  • Practice defensive driving principles and follow all company safety policies.
  • Comply with all laws and regulations relating to driving, transporting and handling of freight including those issued by but limited to The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Comply with truck and trailer security requirements as outlined by the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA).
  • Comply with safe work practices as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA)
  • Comply with federal drug and alcohol regulations
