About The Position

We are looking for a new Night Auditor & Porter for The Hotel Zags. Friday through Monday availability required. Auditor and Porter responsibilities are divided by shift. Stylish, inviting, and convenient to lively local attractions, The Hotel Zags is an oasis all its own, offering a hospitality experience enlivened by natural beauty and the quirky culture of the city around it. Boutique in size and independent in nature, The Hotel Zags is located in the Fountain District, a hidden gem of Portland's downtown district. From its vibrant color schemes, modern furnishings, and large picture windows that perfectly frame views of the city and the hotel's courtyard, the hotel brings the outdoors inside. Designed with stone-covered walkways, the hotel entrance is also framed by a Living Wall robust with plant life to mirror the nearby Columbia River Gorge. Though the property has a style and energy all its own, The Hotel Zags is all about the city around it. Job Overview The Night Auditor audits, balances and reports on the various areas of the hotel (e.g. food and beverage outlets, rooms/front desk, gift shop, etc.) to provide accurate, timely information and to ensure company and Hotel policies and procedures are followed and to prevent fraud. Responds in a professional and courteous manner to arriving, departing and in-house guests by providing accurate and timely information and services. Responds to telephone and in-person inquiries regarding reservations, hotel information and guest concerns. The Night Porter ensures the security, cleanliness, and operational readiness of the hotel during overnight hours. This role includes property rounds, public area cleaning, and stripping of hotel guestrooms. The position plays a critical part in ensuring a seamless transition between overnight and daytime operations.

Requirements

High school education or equivalent experience.
Ability to operate personal computer, cash register and calculator.
Ability to compile facts and figures.
Telephone and guest relations etiquette and skills.
Moderate hearing required to communicate with guests.
Excellent vision required for viewing of CRT screen.
Excellent speech communication skills required to communicate with guests over the telephone.
Excellent comprehension and literacy required for reading daily reports, numbers, etc.
Must be detailed-oriented and capable of working independently
Basic knowledge of cleaning and food handling procedures required
Ability to follow safety and emergency procedures
Ability to communicate in English clearly and effectively
Must be proactive, dependable, and guest-service oriented
During auditor shifts, 90% of shift is standing, Bending/kneeling - repeated bending and kneeling required while filing.
Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry up to 50 lbs.
Prolonged standing and walking required
Mobility - must be able to reach all areas of hotel to assist clients.
Must be able to bend, kneel, reach overhead, and perform repetitive tasks
Must be able to operate cleaning equipment and kitchen appliances safely
Physically strenuous, prolonged standing, walking, intermittent exposure to outside elements, primarily an indoor position.

Accounting background preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

Audit, balance and report on all food and beverage outlets (e.g. restaurants, lounges, banquets, room service) cash and credit operations to include but not limited to checks, over/short figures/tally sheets, deposits, counts, house charges, promotional materials, postings, etc. and reset all registers to ensure accurate, timely information.
Audit, balance, post and report on the front desk to include but not limited to; room charges, phone calls, zero balance folios, corrections, adjustments, taxes, disputed charges, over/short figures, deposits, etc., to ensure accuracy and verify proper cash handling procedures are followed.
Audit, balance and prepare, verify and report on Room information to provide rooms management with a picture of how they are performing. Prepare and input statistics and income journal sheets for preparation of daily reports.
Balance and close all bank ticket codes, daily.
Run night audit final after insuring all revenues are in balance nightly.
Greets and completes established check-in procedures for arriving guests on a daily basis, using both manual and computerized methods, in order to ensure guest are satisfied and in rooms as requested.
Facilitates guest departure (check-out) on a daily basis by following established manual and computer procedures in order to close guest accounts and open the room for the next sell.
Maintains good customer relations by keeping abreast of all in-house and area functions in order to answer questions and concerns with timely and knowledgeable responses, in person and on telephone.
Operates the PBX equipment by accepting incoming calls, assisting outgoing calls, scheduling and setting wake-up calls and paging guests to provide guests with timely and efficient service.
Perform the duties of a Front Desk Clerk including express checkouts.
Conduct regular patrols of the property to maintain safety and security for guests, staff, and assets.
Monitor public and back-of-house areas and report any suspicious activity, safety concerns, or maintenance issues.
Empty trash bins and clean public areas, including lobby, restrooms, and hallways.
Clean and reset the hotel patio area, including wiping tables, empty trash and reset furniture.
Maintain sanitation and food safety standards during all food handling and cleaning tasks.
Respond professionally and promptly to guest needs or emergency calls during the shift.
Always demonstrate professionalism and courtesy when interacting with guests, vendors, or team members.
Assist guests with retrieving their luggage.
Guests should be professionally greeted within 5 ft of your area when in public areas of the hotel.
Associates should take the initiative to offer assistance or answer questions throughout the hotel.
Associates should always demonstrate self-confidence, energy, and enthusiasm.
Use empowerment to exceed associate and guest expectations and resolve conflicts.
Associates are to work as a team, helping all teammates to complete the required activities which will ensure guest satisfaction.
All other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.
