About The Position

CASES is seeking an experienced, clinically grounded Assistant Team Leader to join a new and innovative initiative within our Pretrial Services Department: the Intensive Services Unit (ISU). This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader who thrives in fast-paced, mission-driven environments and is passionate about supporting individuals with complex needs at critical moments in their lives. The Assistant Team Leader provides direct supervision, clinical guidance, and operational support to the team members working the night shift at Manhattan Criminal Court. This team delivers intensive, hands-on support to participants in the Supervised Release Program, building and maintaining caseloads that move seamlessly from the courtroom to the community, night after night. Reporting to and supported by the Director of Arraignments, the Assistant Team Leader plays a key role in guiding daily operations, strengthening clinical practice, and fostering a collaborative, trauma-informed team culture.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or fields preferred or Bachelor’s degree in Social Workwith3-4 years Supervisory experience.
  • At least three years of experience working in human services with individuals with serious mental illness and those with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. As well as working in the field
  • Physical demands of the job include commuting on public transportation for extended periods within NYC, visiting participants in their homes and/or community spaces.
  • Experience understanding various evidence-based models and theories pertaining to psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, serious mental illness and recovery.
  • Experience understanding family systems based on diversity of cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Highly organized and self-motivated

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and administrative oversight of the team
  • Support the overall clinical and administrative operations of the community supervision, case management, peer support, health, and rehabilitation services.
  • Provide support to staff who will be in the community from 5pm-9pm.
  • Assistant Team Leader will conduct in-person field-based services in the community with team members to support staff in their work with participants with elevated risks and needs, when needed.
  • Manage a specialized caseload of program participants whopresent withsignificant behavioral health needs, co-morbid conditions and/or complex presentations requiring collaboration with various partner providers.
  • Provide recovery-oriented, trauma-informedand gender-responsive services.
  • Assess participant’s; immediate needs, legal circumstances, substance use, mental health, trauma, psychosocial, vocational, educational, and housing needs to complete assessments and develop service plans.
  • Provide transitional support for clients to their home, shelters, treatmentprogramsand/or other services to ensure and secure connection to programming.
  • Assist clients with linkages to and systems navigation within the behavioral health, human services, and criminal justice systems asappropriateConductoutreach to families and significant others to gather collateral information for service planning.
  • Develop and maintain excellent professional relationships with judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, and other court partners to facilitate program admissions and maintain CASES 'credibility in the Manhattan Criminal and Supreme Courts.
  • Participate in supervision, case review and staff meetings, and in-servicetrainingsto develop professional skills.
  • Work regular schedule and adhere to schedule changes to ensure SRP consistentlymaintainscoverage for all court shifts; perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors and senior staff
  • Supervise Case Coordinators and peer intern students, where applicable.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors and senior staff.
  • Help ensure we maintain a safe working environment by reporting any hazards or unsafe conditions, e.g., liquid spill in hallway, to the appropriate facilities staff member or supervisor.
