About The Position

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Minimum 1-2 years of professional nursing experience in the related specialty
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State
  • BLS certification required, plus specialized certifications as needed

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the patient's physiologic health status
  • Conducts patient interviews and explains policies and procedures
  • Assesses gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and neurological health status
  • Determines mobility, sensory deficits, prostheses use, and skin condition
  • Assesses level of pain and pain management
  • Communicates and documents patient's physiologic health status and plan of care
  • Assesses patient's psychosocial health status
  • Elicits perception of medical/nursing care and expectations
  • Determines coping mechanisms and knowledge level
  • Identifies cultural/ethnic requirements to reduce anxiety
  • Develops criteria for measurement of patient outcomes
  • Identifies actual/potential patient problems
  • Develops patient outcome statements and establishes individualized goals
  • Identifies care activities and establishes priorities
  • Documents the plan of care and collaborates with healthcare team members
  • Maintains constant vigilance over patient care
  • Exercises professional skills related to the plan of care
  • Reassesses patients and revises plan of care as needed
  • Correctly administers prescribed treatments and medications
  • Provides emotional support to patients and families
  • Acts rapidly during emergency situations
  • Participates in discharge planning and coordinates referrals
  • Provides patient and family education regarding conditions and treatments
