Job Summary: Orders and maintains an appropriate inventory of respiratory therapy supplies. Job Description: Essential Responsibilities: Attends and participates in internal and external educational meetings (departmental in-services, staff meetings, and manufacturer's training sessions) to maintain and enhance technical competence. Demonstrates and teaches the use of oxygen delivery equipment, restricted to that equipment not requiring a licensed respiratory therapist for teaching. Assists the Respiratory Therapist in maintaining readiness of mechanical ventilators by preparing various circuits and conducting electronic and pneumatic tests between patients. Assembles various circuits used in non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Conducts preliminary troubleshooting activities when a mechanical ventilator malfunctions; notifies Clinical Engineering and arranges repair. Conducts preventative maintenance activities according to the manufacturer's recommended guidelines. Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctioning oxygen and suction regulators and flowmeters. Monitors inventory of consumable plastics (e.g., oxygen administration devices, various circuitry) and orders supplies. Delivers inventory to designated areas within the medical center. Assembles and delivers various circuits (e.g., non-invasive mechanical ventilation circuits) to critical care areas. Performs oxygen rounds and enters daily charges using the Charge Entry function in CCC. Delivers full oxygen cylinders to designated supply areas in the general patient care units; retrieves empty cylinders and returns them to the bulk storage area. Provides scheduled and unscheduled education concerning changing regulators on oxygen cylinders.
