Visit us online at: https://www.nwths.com/careers Position: NICU Dietitian POSITION SUMMARY: The Neonatal Intensive Care Registered Dietitian is responsible for assessing the nutritional status of the neonates of NWTHS; developing a nutritional plan of care and implementing Medical Nutrition Therapy alongside an interdisciplinary team. The Neonatal Intensive Care Registered Dietitian will assist in training and performance improvement as needed, and provide inpatient care to other patient populations as needed.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or 10 years work experience required.
  • Registered Dietitian/Licensed Dietitian registered in state of Texas.
  • Must have proof of specialized neonatal nutrition training.
  • BLS from the American Heart Association upon hire, or within 90 days of hire date.
  • Good written and oral communication skills required.
  • Typing and basic computer skills desired.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications preferred.
  • Must successfully complete the pre-employment assessment.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to communicate with staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, and others.
  • Ability to remain calm under stress.
  • Bending, kneeling, crouching, twisting, lifting (10-30 lbs), grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing and pulling, prolonged standing or sitting.
  • Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard/metric measurement).
  • Will be subjected to cold when entering refrigerator and freezer as well as fumes from chemicals, cooking odors, gases and odors from patient rooms.
  • Potential hazards from cuts from knives and meat slicer and/or burns from cooking and heating surfaces.

Responsibilities

  • The Neonatal Intensive Care Registered Dietitian is responsible for assessing the nutritional status of the neonates of NWTHS; developing a nutritional plan of care and implementing Medical Nutrition Therapy alongside an interdisciplinary team. The Neonatal Intensive Care Registered Dietitian will assist in training and performance improvement as needed, and provide inpatient care to other patient populations as needed.
  • Has completed recorded training of perinatal and neonatal nutrition.
  • Demonstrates the ability to screen patients for identification of nutritional intervention.
  • Exhibits knowledge to integrate clinical, anthropometrics, laboratory, social, psychological and nutrition data into assessment, identify modification of food/nutrient intake and route of administration.
  • Records pertinent patient nutritional care documentation in Medical record and validates patient charges for nutritional care.
  • Develops and implements nutrition care plan based on objective data from nutrition assessment; for the special needs of neonates /infant special needs & other pops as needed.
  • Evaluates and adjusts as necessary based on outcome of care and continuous monitoring of patient’s needs.
  • Provides counseling to patients, families, and significant others regarding diet needs, restrictions and food/drug interactions; evaluates learning and adjusts as necessary.
  • Initiates, develop deliver and evaluate nutrition education programs and in-services for food service employees, other health care staff and the community.
  • Attends and actively participates in department meetings.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills utilizing education materials and teaching techniques necessary to provide care based on physical, social, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Will be available via Tiger Text at all times, unless another trained dietitian in neonatal/infant nutrition is covering duties.
