About The Position

MCS is hiring for a NICET Fire Alarm Engineer/Technician in Tampa, FL . This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits. A NICET Level III Fire Alarm Engineer/Technician is a senior-level professional responsible for designing, installing, inspecting, and troubleshooting complex fire alarm systems. They work independently to interpret codes (NFPA 72, NEC, IBC) and supervise Level I/II technicians. Key tasks include creating shop drawings, project management, and ensuring regulatory compliance

Requirements

  • Certification: Active NICET Level III certification in Fire Alarm Systems. Strongly Preferred.
  • Experience: Typically requires 5 or more years of experience in fire alarm system layout, installation, or service.
  • Knowledge: Advanced understanding of NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code), NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code), and NEC (National Electrical Code)
  • Minimum of 5 years of Fire Alarm System experience, including programming and configuration of Notifier systems.
  • Proficiency with NFPA 72, Life Safety Code 101, and IBC.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds as needed.

  • Must be well organized with the ability to coordinate, prioritize, and execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Candidate must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to work effectively with various external customers including government, military, and contractor personnel at all levels.

  • For office environments, grooming and dress are typically business casual but are dependent on the client’s standards.
  • For field environments, grooming and dress must not pose a safety hazard to yourself or employees working in the same general area.
  • MCS of Tampa employees must adhere to OSHA Standards.
  • The position for which you are applying for may require a US government security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with a wide range of fire alarm manufacturers (e.g., Fire-Lite, Silent Knight, FCI-Gamewell, Simplex, Siemens, EST) is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Design and Layout: Prepare complex fire alarm system shop drawings, including layout, device selection, and calculations.
  • Supervision: Oversee installation, programming, and testing of systems, managing junior technicians.
  • Code Compliance & Testing: Perform acceptance testing and verify compliance with local and national fire codes (e.g., NFPA 72).
  • Technical Expertise: Troubleshoot complex system issues, including networked control units and voice evacuation systems.
  • Documentation & Coordination: Prepare technical reports, update documentation, and coordinate with contractors and AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction)
