About The Position

LabCorp Drug Development is seeking a Next Gen Sequencing Specialist to join the Genomics team. This role involves performing laboratory testing and supporting the operational team in the Next Gen Sequencing (NGS) processes, contributing to the development of essential medicines for the pharmaceutical industry.

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Life Sciences, Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science OR Associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology.
  • A minimum of 2 years hands-on experience with NGS technologies and practices including Nucleic Acid isolation and manipulation, library preparation, QC, and NGS platform operations (MiSeq, NextSeq, NovaSeq preferred).
  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory automation platforms is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, resolve and report results and findings.
  • Effective communication skills with technical staff, business development staff and peers.
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Individual must qualify as testing personnel under the CLIA 1988 and New York State Department of Health requirements.

  • Informatics experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned clinical laboratory testing accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare workstation and instrumentation for the assigned testing.
  • Operate instruments to implement and perform testing in accordance with established written procedures.
  • Perform routine testing and calculations as required.
  • Resolve routine and non-routine assay problems.
  • Provide technical training/consultation for other operational staff.
  • Ensure the validity of test results through the performance of established quality assurance and quality control procedures.
  • Perform experiments as scheduled.
  • Document quality control results and interpret them accurately.
  • Document corrective action for unusual occurrences (e.g. QC violations, instrument related problems).
  • Ensure maintenance of instruments and equipment is performed according to manufacturer and SOP requirements.
  • Calibrate instruments, equipment, and/or assays as required and document.
  • Perform instrument and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Notify laboratory management when an instrument or equipment does not meet specifications.
  • Comply with regulatory guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times.
