About The Position

The Supervisory Sales Clerk at the Navy Exchange Service Command is responsible for overseeing associates in the Garden Shop, ensuring exceptional customer service and technical knowledge in plant care and garden supplies. This role involves supervising sales activities, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean and orderly shop environment while adhering to safety regulations.

Requirements

• 1 year of responsible experience in clerical office or retail sales store work.
• 1 year of progressively responsible experience in retail sales relevant to the position.
• Education above high school level may substitute for experience on a 6-month basis.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Garden Shop Center associates providing sales assistance to customers.
• Provides work direction and guidance, establishes schedules, and determines priorities.
• Approves/disapproves leave and overtime, recommends personnel actions such as promotions and performance awards, and takes disciplinary actions.
• Prepares performance appraisals and communicates EEO policies to subordinates.
• Advises customers and subordinates on the care of various plants and gardening procedures.
• Ensures timely stock replenishment and proper display of merchandise.
• Maintains inventory control records and develops reports for authorized merchandise requisitions.
• Responsible for the security of cash and merchandise inventory, including cash receipts management.
• Ensures the garden shop is clean and adheres to fire safety and HAZMAT regulations.
• Exercises courtesy and good manners when serving customers and associates.
• Assumes responsibility for Garden Shop operations in the absence of the Department Manager.
