About The Position

The Staten Island Advance/SILive.com is seeking energetic and enthusiastic students (or recent graduates) who have completed coursework in journalism or communications to spend a semester in our newsroom as part of our paid Intern program. The Advance/SILive.com Internship immerses students in the media industry with real-world work, training and connection-building with working journalists. Interns have the exciting opportunity to pursue real-time reporting in the field, to learn the systems and tools used by media professionals and to serve our borough as part of our community news team. Areas of focus for interns may include reporting, writing, photography, social media, videography and/or podcasting. You will gain experience at a diverse, forward-thinking media organization that is committed to growing a robust digital news report for the Staten Island community. Internships are offered year-round, and interns work part-time on a schedule that balances school responsibilities.

Requirements

• Completed coursework in journalism or communications
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Self-starter attitude

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with Staten Island
• Current or former Staten Island residents

Responsibilities

• Pursue real-time reporting in the field
• Learn the systems and tools used by media professionals
• Engage in reporting, writing, photography, social media, videography, and/or podcasting
• Serve the Staten Island community as part of the news team
• Manage own transportation to news assignments
