About The Position

KQED is offering a paid internship for Newscast interns, working 16 hours per week from July 7th, 2025 through December 19th, 2025. The current salary is $19.18 per hour. Newscast interns will learn the skills to become General Assignment (GA) reporters, covering local news stories and interviewing community members, elected officials, and experts on major Bay Area developments. Interns will learn to write concise and important stories for a large audience, handle daily deadlines, and pitch ideas that can turn into strong pieces of newscast content. Requirements

  • A desire to be a reporter and tell local stories affecting the Bay Area.
  • Willingness to learn journalism.
  • No professional journalism experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Cover local news stories and conduct interviews with community members, elected officials, and experts.
  • Write concise news stories for a large audience.
  • Handle daily deadlines and pitch story ideas.
  • Produce longer radio stories and features as comfort with workflow increases.
  • Write digital news stories.
