About The Position

Direct live and pre-recorded newscasts using production switchers, graphics systems, and automation tools. Collaborate with producers, anchors, technical crew, and newsroom staff to execute the editorial vision of each newscast. Operate and troubleshoot control room equipment including switchers, audio boards, graphics systems, and video servers. Maintain the visual and technical quality of the broadcast, ensuring all elements are timed and executed correctly. Attend pre-show meetings and provide direction to studio and control room staff. Implement creative transitions, camera shots, and effects to enhance storytelling. Respond quickly to breaking news and last-minute changes with professionalism and precision. Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and station policies.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience directing newscasts in a professional broadcast environment.
  • Proficiency with production automation systems (e.g. Ross OverDrive, Grass Valley Ignite, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of studio and control room operations.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work any assigned shift including days, nights, weekends, holidays; and extended hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred.
