About The Position
This position will operate on a remote, freelance basis. Applicants must be located in the US or Canada. Are you an experienced tech writer with a knack for cutting through the noise and getting to the point fast? Do you keep up with the latest developments across PC hardware, operating systems, software, and emerging tech? How-To Geek is looking for News Writers to cover timely, informative technology news in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The How-To Geek team closely follows the tech industry, publishing news, explainers, tips, and guides that help readers understand how technology works and why it matters. Our coverage spans a wide range of consumer and enthusiast tech topics, from hardware launches to software updates and emerging platforms. Coverage Areas Include: PC Hardware (Networking, Storage and NAS, Components, Peripherals) Operating Systems (Windows, Linux) Software and Applications Mobile (Android, iPhone, Carriers) New Tech (Hobbies, Smart Home, Homelab, SBCs, Cutting Edge) Streaming (Content, Platforms, Audio/Video) Automotive
Requirements
- Relevant experience writing and editing in English
- Ability to think analytically and clearly explain why a news story matters
- Strong familiarity with one or more of the coverage areas listed above
- Ability to work within a US time zone
Responsibilities
- Ability to contribute reliably and consistently under tight deadlines
- Stay up to date on the latest technology news, product launches, and updates
- Coordinate with the editorial team for assignments and feedback
- Input work into our in-house CMS according to editorial guidelines
