About The Position

KFSK is seeking a Newsroom Director to manage the news department covering Alaska's Little Norway. Petersburg is located among the forested islands and mountains of Alaska's beautiful Inside Passage on the northern tip of Mitkof Island. It's a small, vibrant town with about 3,100 permanent residents, located in the heart of the Tongass National Forest. Petersburg's day-to-day atmosphere is that of a busy fishing village. Fishing and pleasure boats dominate the waters around Petersburg. Our town is off-the-beaten-path of the large cruise ships, which cannot navigate the Wrangell Narrows, a winding scenic waterway between Mitkof and Kupreanof Islands. Petersburg offers outstanding opportunities for hiking, backpacking, fishing and boating with nearby glaciers, surrounded by the natural beauty of Alaska. This is a unique opportunity in a beautiful small town with a community radio station that plays an integral part of the culture and fabric of the town. Come work for a 48 years-strong pillar of Southeast Alaska community radio. We are growing our coverage, and garnered widespread community support due to the visionary management of the board of directors and hard-working staff. Our news department provides the only daily source of news in our area. Ideal candidates have strong management skills and the ability to produce high-quality news and public affairs programming. You will execute an editorial agenda to fulfill our public service journalism mission of delivering news whether it is fisheries, forestry, local government, education or in-depth enterprise stories. We strive to keep our community informed, entertained and enlightened.
