About The Position

WXXI News is seeking a motivated intern to work alongside our seasoned journalists on daily stories and digital projects. As an intern, you will learn our newsroom operation, standards, and tech - a multimedia journalism bootcamp. After that, you'll be working with our talented team in the production of daily news and enterprise journalism for our various platforms. WXXI journalists wear a lot of hats, and your day could include covering a press conference at City Hall, doing research for our 2025 elections coverage, or assisting in the production of one of our live radio shows.

Requirements

• Undergraduate student, currently enrolled in a college program
• Journalism/communications or English majors preferred
• Some experience creating audio or visual digital content
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Transportation to WXXI studios and news events as necessary
• Flexibility to work two 5-hour shifts per week
• Knowledge of social media platforms, including Instagram

Responsibilities

• Newsgathering: research, pre-interviews and interviews, fact checking
• Production: recording and editing audio and video in Adobe Suite
• Writing: broadcast scripts and web copy
• Attend newsroom meetings
• Assist reporters in field production as needed
• Cover daily stories as assigned
• Shadow other departments at WXXI
• Other duties as assigned
