About The Position

The News and Deals Senior Writer will join the Amazon vertical within the Transaction team and create shopping content for People Inc. brands, namely Real Simple. They will focus on sourcing deals and compelling products in the fashion, beauty, and home space. This role requires someone who is passionate about writing, shopping, and finding great deals, and who can produce multiple articles per day, creating content that inspires People Inc.’s large audiences to make informed purchases. The ideal candidate is a sharp writer and a smart shopper who has their finger on the pulse of what’s trending in the commerce world. They communicate clearly, help optimize workflows and output, bring a strong team-first mindset, and are comfortable using data to inform editorial decisions. This role will report to our Commerce Editor. Writers must be based in the U.S. and live near a People Inc. office (NYC, Des Moines, Birmingham, LA, Chicago).

Requirements

  • A strong commerce writer with at least 4 years of experience, preferably with a digital consumer brand; fashion and beauty experience is a plus
  • Well versed in Amazon.com with prior tentpole coverage experience
  • Delivers clean copy with minimal edits on tight deadlines
  • Familiar with SEO best practices and has experience creating SEO-driven content
  • Detail-oriented with an excellent eye for product curation
  • Has a growth mindset and can effectively juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiar with the Real Simple voice, audience, and content philosophy
  • Experienced with CMS platforms, Google Analytics, Looker, Airtable, and SEO tools
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Pitch and write multiple commerce stories per week with lively, engaging headlines that drive strong affiliate revenue and high traffic on Apple News, Google Discover, and other outlets
  • Review data and analytics to brainstorm, guide, and prioritize content decisions
  • Bring strong, well-researched pitches daily that are grounded in data, search trends, and what's already resonating with readers
  • Research, reach out to, and interview experts to provide background information and quotes as needed
  • Work on strategy projects as needed
  • Support content planning and execution around major shopping events, like Prime Day and Black Friday
  • Collaborate closely with writers and editors on the Transaction team and across People Inc.
  • Attend and participate in weekly team meetings
