The College of Science is seeking a New Student Head Advisor. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. The Head Advisor provides leadership for new student academic advising, as well as academic advising designed to proactively support students in the College of Science (COS) experiencing academic challenges and working toward success. The Head Advisor position reports to the COS Director of Advising with a dual reporting line to the Director of New Student Advising in University Advising. This position provides consultation and expertise to the COS Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs and the COS Director of Advising on matters relating to new student academic advising and student success. Area leadership of academic advising includes direct new student advising responsibilities, direct proactive advising responsibilities designed to support students encountering academic challenges, supervision and management of new student advisors in the academic units of the COS, and coordination, collaboration, program support, and/or the completion of special projects. The Head Advisor has direct responsibility for management, operations, training, and strategic goals of the COS new student advising team that directly impact student and advisor success. The Head Advisor engages in their position responsibilities with an underlying focus on creating an equitable and inclusive advising environment where diverse students persist and achieve timely degree completion and academic advisors thrive. This position serves as a resource to COS advisors for new students, and students encountering academic challenges, on university academic policies, procedures, and change initiatives and ensures compliance with university policies and procedures among COS advisors. The Head Advisor works as a member of the COS team to complete position responsibilities and achieve established goals, and they regularly collaborate with the COS Director of Advising, COS Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, the COS advising team, department head advisors, the university advising team, as well as university partners as appropriate. The Head Advisor leverages Oregon State University's student information systems and databases, prepares reports as needed using these tools, pursues professional development opportunities for members of the university advising community, and keeps current on University and College policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Specific coordination, collaboration, program support, and special projects will be assigned by the COS Director of Advising, and assigned areas of work will support new students, students experiencing academic challenges, new student advisor success, the mission and strategic plan of the University and the strategic plan and Diversity Action Plan of the College of Science.
