About The Position

The New Railcar Technology, Emerging Talent Intern will work within the Department of Subways - Division of Car Equipment (DCE) at the NYC Transit Authority. This department operates 13 maintenance shops and 2 overhaul shops throughout New York City, ensuring safe and reliable subway cars for daily service. The intern will receive on-the-job training assisting Senior Engineers within the Electrical or Mechanical group to review technical documents, schematics, and technical drawings to support in analysis, testing, and troubleshooting R211 trains. This assignment will help to evaluate issues and maintain government compliance with specifications and industry standards necessary for continuous reliability and system safety.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • Familiar with basic engineering principles.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.
  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.

Responsibilities

  • Review technical documentation of R211 subway cars.
  • Participate in qualification testing of R211 subway cars.
  • Evaluate data used for R211 subway cars.
  • Review design of R211 subway cars.
  • Review procedures in manuals for R211 subway cars.
  • Use Microsoft Office for tracking R211 design changes.
  • Assist coordinating with the car builder, contractors, procurement, and the new railcar technology team.
  • Ad hoc projects as needed.

Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $19.00
