Department: Education Department New Graduate Nurse Residency - Spring 2026 Program Timeline: Application Window: First week of January 2026 Schedule Interviews: Third week of February Panel Interviews: Last week in February Final Selection: First week in March Program Start Date: April 13, 2026 Program Eligibility: RN Residency: A program designed for newly licensed RNs (or international equivalent) with less than 12 months of nursing experience to attain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to meet standards of nursing practice relevant to the practice setting. Must be a graduate of an accredited ASN/ADN, BSN or MSN program. Please note: Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) is required. New hires and transfers must obtain BSN within four (4) years from hire. Residents will work a varied schedule that will include a combination of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts, as well as different start times, to support training requirements and operational needs. Job Description: Works under the supervision of the Director. The Registered Nurse I assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and supervises individualized care in a patient care area according to departmental policies and procedures and Nurse Practice Act. She/he will individualize patient care based upon the age appropriate and developmental needs and will accept responsibility for the direction of co-workers in the implementation of the plan of care. Collaborates with physicians, patient/families and members of the health care team in delivering a plan of care. Utilizes positive communication skills. May be required to work on other nursing units according to distribution of staff and patients. Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit. Job Requirements: Education: Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) required. New hires and transfers must obtain BSN within four (4) years from hire regardless of position held at Salinas Valley Health. Licenses: Current California RN license. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards. See unit specific certification requirements below.
