About The Position

UNC Medical Center is hiring New Grad Nurses to join our Medicine Progressive Care Unit! This position qualifies for our UNC Hospitals New Grad RN Incentive Program, which includes up to $15,000 commitment incentive or up to $25,000 tuition loan forgiveness. In addition, this position is also eligible for up to $10,000 in relocation assistance (based on location). The Medicine Progressive Care Unit is a 24-bed unit with state-of-the-art equipment to promote efficiency and excellence in patient care. This unit receives patients with a wide range of medical and pulmonary diagnoses and has the capability to have up to six vented patients. This position is 36 hours per week with day/night and weekend rotation. Self-scheduling to meet the individual and department needs. It is expected that candidates will be eligible to practice as an RN in North Carolina prior to their first day of employment. This position is eligible for excellent benefits including health, dental and retirement options and a generous PTO plan. In order to qualify for the UNC Medical Center New Graduate Residency program, candidates must be currently in their final semester of nursing school or who have recently graduated from nursing school within the past 12 months of the anticipated start date and have worked as an RN for less than 6 months. This is a yearlong program supporting transition from academia to practice for new graduate nurses. The program is layered on top of orientation to provide mentored clinical relationships which support development as a professional nurse. Requirements

  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina by the day of clinical care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • No prior experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrolled within four years of employment in a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self.

  • Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies and procedures in delivery of care.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs.
  • Consults with appropriate resources in a timely fashion regarding patients with complex care issues.
  • Develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations.
  • Achieves goals and objectives within identified time frame or renegotiates with supervisor.
  • Participates in development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
  • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care.
  • Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful whole prior to communication to others.
  • Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care.
  • Makes use of available multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
  • Reads journals that contain studies or articles that may be applicable to practice.
