About The Position

UNC Medical Center is hiring New Grad Nurses to join our Hematology/Oncology Team. This position is eligible for up to $10,000 in relocation assistance (based on location). If you're a current UNC Medical Center employee, you must apply as an internal applicant. We're seeking new graduates with a strong interest in Oncology. 4 Oncology is a 39 bed inpatient Hematology/Oncology unit that cares for solid tumor and hematologic malignancy patients including the management of transfusions, antibiotic therapy, chemotherapy/biotherapy and end of life care. We will provide you with the chemotherapy knowledge as well as disease-specific training to provide quality nursing care to this patient population. This position is 36 hours per week with day/night and weekend rotation. Self-scheduling to meet the individual and department needs. It is expected that candidates will be eligible to practice as an RN in North Carolina prior to their first day of employment. In order to qualify for the UNC Medical Center New Graduate Residency program, candidates must be currently in their final semester of nursing school or who have recently graduated from nursing school within the past 12 months of the anticipated start date and have worked as an RN for less than 6 months. This a yearlong program supporting transition from academia to practice for new graduate nurses. The program is layered on top of orientation to provide mentored clinical relationships which support development as a professional nurse. Requirements

  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina by the day of clinical care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self.

  • Consults with appropriate resources in a timely fashion regarding patients with complex care issues.
  • Develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations.
  • Achieves goals and objectives within identified time frame or renegotiates with supervisor.
  • Participates in development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
  • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care.
  • Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful whole prior to communication to others.
  • Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care.
  • Makes use of available multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
  • Reads journals that contain studies or articles that may be applicable to practice.
