The Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute cares for patients with a variety of heart, vascular and thoracic diseases and provides the highest level of patient care, innovative treatments and a welcoming environment to all. J8-1 is a 25-bed Surgical Telemetry Unit with private rooms. The patient population is largely individuals with vascular diseases or disorders. Common diagnoses include: acute DVT, extremity ischemia, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and peripheral ulcers. Most common post-operative patients are those who have undergone thrombolytic therapies, amputations, peripheral bypasses and vascular grafts or stenting. Comorbidities of these patients often include hypertension, diabetes, renal failure and CAD. Employment on J81 offers excellent opportunities for skill and professional development of the nurse. J81 is known as a strong learning environment because of its array of patient types, support of students, new graduates and its wealth of skilled preceptors.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program).
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • New grad or less than one year RN work experience or if experience RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical inpatient setting with less than one-year current acute direct patient care RN experience.
  • If in critical care area an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Certification upon or within first year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
  • Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
  • Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
  • Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
  • Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Document in patients’ medical records.
