About The Position

The Electrical Design Engineer I position at Southland Industries involves the design and oversight of electrical systems for new construction and retrofit projects. The role requires a foundational understanding of various electrical systems, including power distribution, grounding, telecommunication, fire alarms, and instrumentation. The engineer will participate in conceptual designs, prepare estimates, perform calculations, and ensure compliance with relevant standards while collaborating with project teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering or Electrical Engineering
• Minimum of 1 year of design experience
• Knowledge of electrical design and systems
• Familiarity with building trade disciplines such as mechanical and plumbing
• Ability to communicate effectively with management and field trades
• Competence in reading one-line diagrams and equipment plans
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and design software like AutoCAD and Revit

Nice To Haves

• Experience with electrical modeling programs like SKM or Easypower
• Familiarity with estimating software such as McCormick or Accubid
• Knowledge of lighting modeling software like AGI or ELUMTools

Responsibilities

• Participate in conceptual design efforts on all project sizes
• Prepare estimates for design options
• Perform calculations for projects, including load calculations, panel schedules, and equipment selection
• Create design deliverables such as electrical floor plans, equipment schedules, and one-line diagrams
• Collaborate with BIM modelers and project staff to develop engineering drawings
• Ensure compliance with LEED, Title 24, and client requirements
• Provide engineering support through site inspections during construction
• Review applicable codes and criteria while examining field conditions
