About The Position

The New Business Developer Services Sr Specialist is responsible for supervising, coordinating and administering developer-funded new water and wastewater system construction programs. This role involves reviewing and approving new development requests to determine if the proposed system can be adequately served by existing infrastructure to meet company and regulatory standards, or if improvements are required to extend service. The specialist will interface with developers, developer engineers/contractors, company engineers and operations associates, and state/local regulatory bodies to ensure American Water processes and standards are followed and the installation of new water and wastewater projects are completed efficiently. Additionally, the role includes administering the cost estimation, funding and refund processes of developer-installed and Company-installed water and wastewater construction programs for new developments, coordinating with key American Water functional stakeholders, ensuring inspection during construction, and overseeing the turnover process to the local operations team. The specialist will also implement and foster the coaching and development of employees, supporting managers to ensure effective people management policies and practices are developed and implemented.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 4+ years' experience with a bachelor's degree or 10+ years' experience without a bachelor's degree in utility or land development or construction.
  • Knowledge of Engineering principles related to water and wastewater system design and operations.
  • Knowledge in utility construction or land development.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and leadership.
  • Computer literacy and competence in work processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work independently on complex projects.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills; attention to detail.
  • Financial analysis skills, including budget management and basic accounting knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve new development requests to determine service adequacy.
