Nevada Connections Academy (NCA) is a tuition-free, online public school that serves students in grades 9-12 throughout Nevada. The school launched in 2007 as a distance education charter school authorized by the Nevada State Board of Education, and is governed by an independent Board of Directors. The school is operated by Nevada Connections Academy, a nonprofit corporation, through a contract with Connections Academy of Nevada, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. NCA is accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission, an accrediting division of AdvancED. The High School Social Studies Teacher will work remotely from home or, if residing in the Reno area, may choose to work from the Nevada Connections Academy office. This certified Secondary Teacher will virtually manage instructional programs, utilizing the telephone, Internet, and various curriculum tools to consult regularly with learning coaches and students, ensuring that each child successfully completes their instructional program. The teacher will be responsible for grading, creating progress reports, and conducting parent conferences in a timely manner. In addition, the teacher will support the instructional program with asynchronous web conferencing sessions and synchronous instruction, review curriculum, and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to enhance student understanding. Regular communication with parents, students, and other teachers is essential to develop and update Personal Learning Plans and schedules, score assessments, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, and monitor assignment completion. The teacher will also collaborate with other teachers to ensure that all students are progressing through the program and that parents have a central point of contact. The role includes maintaining up-to-date student records and data, consulting with other teachers and staff learning specialists to develop enrichment activities, coordinating social activities and relevant field trips, and managing regional field trips to integrate them into the curriculum. Participation in the organization and administration of State Testing, student recruiting sessions, and other marketing efforts is also required. The teacher will work with School Counselors to ensure appropriate communications and progress for students and families, attend field trips and community activities, and perform other duties as assigned.
