This position requires must-have experience in neurosurgery coding, including craniotomies and spinal surgeries. The role involves coding and abstracting procedural (CPT) and diagnosis codes (ICD-10) for physician services, reviewing physician documentation in the electronic medical record for completeness and accuracy to ensure proper code assignment, and providing physician feedback on discrepancies and trends. The candidate will educate physicians on proper documentation techniques and improvement opportunities, collaborate with physicians to ensure timely completion of attestations in the medical records, and input data from encounters in the practice management system. The individual will assume full responsibility for charge capture, coding, and charge entry of all assigned surgical cases into the practice management system, resolve edits and denials, release encounters for billing, and address coding-related tasks of high complexity. Additionally, the candidate will monitor medical records to ensure documentation complies with hospital and payer policies and regulations, and maintain a working knowledge of payer-specific coding guidelines, medical terminology, modifier usage, and NCCI edit conventions, as well as healthcare billing and reimbursement guidelines.
