Functions as a member of the healthcare team to facilitate and promote teamwork toward promotion of quality patient care. Initiates and leads educational activities for comprehensive stroke requirements at other HCA campuses and participates in local health fairs and symposia. Attends local, regional, and national meetings as needed and defined by Comprehensive Stroke certification standards. Conducts mock Code Neuros during normal and off shift hours at different HCA campuses several times a year to ensure staff preparedness. Works to assure successful survey process outcomes for disease specific certification; role requires flexibility in hours due to survey preparedness, educational needs at other HCA campuses and during all shifts. Responsible for facilitating and coordinating the key elements of the Stroke Center Certification process including development and review of protocols and policies and attendance at off hour meetings. Educates staff and physicians on standards compliance and assessment / treatment per evidence based practice for acute stroke patients. Collaborates with physicians and organizes meetings offsite as needed to build relationships and rapport for continued volume enhancements. Provides education to staff and physicians to meet comprehensive stroke requirements. Educational opportunities exist both during normal and off hours. Leads or participates actively in patient centered research related to stroke per requirements of Comprehensive Stroke certification. Proficient at entire research process including IRB. Interacts with patients and families of acute stroke patients to determine care protocol compliance and patient satisfaction. Initiates and manages databases for recording and reporting of data related to disease specific certification/accreditation. Aggregates and reports on data relevant to certification programs in relevant committees. Develops written reports related to assessments and recommends change in the clinical practice environment which may be required. Utilizes and facilitates research that supports and advances nursing practice which meets comprehensive stroke standard requirements. Assists facility staff to achieve competencies around care of the stroke patient; utilizes a multidisciplinary education plan to include all disciplines who are involved in the care of the stroke patient including physicians. Works collaboratively with department directors to evaluate educational needs of staff and develops and implements plans to meet those identified needs in conjunction with the Organizational Development department and unit Clinical Resource Nurses. Utilizes innovative and diverse educational methods to best meet the needs of the staff. Assists in assuring that appropriate standards of care, practice and performance, and policy and procedures are in place through direct observation of clinical practice and collaboration with the management team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Current Virginia State licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse or compact license.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
