About The Position

Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Matthews, NC is seeking a dedicated Surgery Veterinary Technician or Assistant to join our growing Neurology team! About Our Neurology Department Our Neurology service is recognized for its compassionate care, strong teamwork, and collaboration with board-certified neurologists. Team members enjoy a 4-day workweek and participate in a rotating on-call schedule (including nights, weekends, and holidays). As a Neurology Technician or Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting advanced neurological care by: Performing neurologic examinations and assisting with diagnostics Supporting anesthesia and neurosurgical procedures Monitoring patients pre-, intra-, and post-operatively Providing recovery care and client communication Performing technical procedures, including: Venipuncture and catheter placement Surgical preparation and maintaining sterile techniques Administering and monitoring anesthesia Sample and laboratory preparation Medication administration and fluid therapy Note: You will not be responsible for operating on-site MRI machines - only for patient monitoring. Requirements

  • 1-2+ years of clinical veterinary nursing experience
  • Strong work ethic, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs and stay active during shifts
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude

Nice To Haves

  • Credentialed Technician (CVT, RVT, or LVT) or experienced Veterinary Assistant
  • Skills in:
  • Phlebotomy and catheter placement
  • Anesthesia monitoring
  • Emergency and critical care
  • Medication and fluid therapy administration
  • Understanding of medical terminology and patient norms
  • Neurology experience a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Performing neurologic examinations and assisting with diagnostics
  • Supporting anesthesia and neurosurgical procedures
  • Monitoring patients pre-, intra-, and post-operatively
  • Providing recovery care and client communication
  • Performing technical procedures, including:
  • Venipuncture and catheter placement
  • Surgical preparation and maintaining sterile techniques
  • Administering and monitoring anesthesia
  • Sample and laboratory preparation
  • Medication administration and fluid therapy
  • Conduct patient exams and obtain medical histories
  • Collect and process samples; administer medications and vaccines
  • Assist in imaging, diagnostic, and surgical procedures
  • Monitor anesthesia, patient vitals, and post-op recovery
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records
  • Follow safety and legal standards for controlled substances
