About The Position

We are seeking a Networking Systems Engineer to lead the design, requirements management, and integration of space vehicle and constellation-level networks. This role centers on onboard LAN architectures, inter-satellite mesh networks, and space-to-ground connectivity. The job draws on the same skill set required to design and manage enterprise-scale WANs and LANs across multiple sites—with the added challenge of applying those principles to a fleet of satellites. You’ll ensure that networking features are correctly designed, specified, and verified, even though you won’t be writing the code yourself. We’re looking for someone with the mindset of a problem solver and systems thinker: someone who can debug complex issues, guide software and hardware teams, and bridge enterprise networking expertise into the space domain.

Requirements

  • Ability and Willingness to Obtain SECRET/TS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of network engineering experience (enterprise or aerospace), including WAN/LAN/WLAN, VPNs, VLANs, and virtualization.
  • Strong hands-on background in network design, management, and debugging.
  • Experience in requirements development, ICDs, and system-level trades.
  • Ability to bridge enterprise networking expertise into distributed, space-based networks.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in EE/CE/Systems Engineering.
  • Familiarity with RF and optical comm interfaces (Ka-band, S-band, UHF, Link-16 gateways, optical comm terminals) where they intersect with networking.
  • Knowledge of network security and crypto integration for high-assurance networks.
  • Experience with testbeds, HWIL, or constellation-level mission networking labs.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Active Secret clearance desired; TS/SCI preferred.
  • No space/satellite experience required (though highly valued)

Responsibilities

  • Design and manage space vehicle networking architectures (LANs, routing, virtualization, VPN tunneling, VLAN segmentation).
  • Define and maintain requirements, CONOPS, and ICDs for onboard, inter-satellite, and space-to-ground data flows.
  • Apply enterprise networking principles (WAN/LAN/WLAN, VPNs, VMs, QoS) to distributed space systems.
  • Guide flight and ground software teams on implementing networking features (IPv6, routing, QoS, crypto integration, timing).
  • Perform end-to-end latency, throughput, and QoS analyses across heterogeneous RF and optical links.
  • Lead integration and verification efforts across flat-sat, HWIL, EDU, and constellation testbeds.
  • Interface with internal systems teams and external vendors to ensure interoperability.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and protocols (IPv6, MPLS, CCSDS, IEEE 802.3, DoD waveforms).
