This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE), requiring 8 hours of work per day for 12 months per year. The role involves configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting Cisco equipment in a LAN/WAN environment, including enterprise wireless, routers, and switches. The successful candidate will ensure that all devices are running on current firmware and will support the wireless infrastructure, including all wireless controllers, access points, and management software. Additionally, the position supports the Telecommunications Lead Technician in troubleshooting and maintaining the GST BOCES Regional Network, which includes Application and ISP Load Balancers, core routers, switches, transceivers, Internet, network connections, new equipment installations, and network subnetting. Responsibilities also include planning, installation, configuration, maintenance, support, and optimization of hardware, software, and telecommunications solutions and services. The candidate must possess skills for analyzing and troubleshooting network-related issues involving voice, video, and data communications, as well as structured cabling infrastructure (fiber/copper) to optimize network performance. Thorough documentation of network and applications, processes, and procedures is required, including creating, maintaining, and updating network drawings. The role demands excellent customer service, efficient work, meeting deadlines, and customer expectations. Strong people, communication, and self-management skills are essential, along with a desire to work in a team environment. A working knowledge of network security, subnetting, network and WAN backbone design, and various network protocols such as Quality of Service (QoS), Multicast, EIGRP, OSPF, Spanning Tree, Tunneling, and Trunking is necessary. On-the-job training will be provided, and Cisco certifications such as CCNA or other network/security certifications are desired. The candidate will also perform other duties as assigned.
