About The Position

Candidate will need to be qualified in installing, testing and certifying structured and patch panel cabling in a data center environment. Introduction: Black Box Network Services, the global leader in communication system integration, is looking for a Network Infrastructure Technician with a proven track record in: Working in a structured cabling environment. Installing single and multi-mode optical cabling. Inspecting and cleaning installed optical cabling. Installing copper cable to IEEE and BICSI cabling standards. Testing installed cables using a Fluke Versiv Mainframe. Decommissioning obsolete networking cabling infrastructure. Working with elevated and underfloor cabling trays. Assist in troubleshooting network equipment and cabling. This position will support facilities management, site security and project engagement with a commitment and desire to satisfy our customer by completing all work at the highest level, always striving for perfection. The candidate must be motivated and self-driven for success. Position Details: Hourly position based upon experience & skill level Monday through Saturday, 6pm - 2am Location: Customer site - 1990 N. Stemmons Frwy, Dallas, TX 75207 Client Addendum will need to be followed. Copy will be provided at the time of candidates offer.

Requirements

  • Requires appropriate equipment training with high-speed fiber optic transport.
  • The ability to clean high speed single and multi-mode optical connections.
  • The ability to measure, transmit and receive on high-speed optics.
  • The knowledge and experience to work safely with high-speed single mode long range optical lasers.
  • Experienced with Fluke Versiv Mainframe
  • Requires experience in working in a data centers and communications closets.
  • Must be able to safely lift heavy objects.
  • Must understand cable patching processes and procedures.
  • Proven success troubleshooting layer 1 network concerns
  • Must be willing to work shift work which includes nights and weekends.
  • 2-5 yrs experience relevant experience, preferably at least 1 year in a data center environment
  • Must an in-depth knowledge of structured cabling
  • Knowledge of IEEE and BICSI cabling standards

Responsibilities

  • The patching cabling between network equipment and customer’s network.
  • The installation of power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet.
  • The installation, troubleshooting and de-installing network equipment.
  • Install/swap out cables, switches routers and etc.
  • Complete all hard and complex Move, Add Change (MAC) requests within the defined service levels.
  • Provide infrastructure cabling break-fix services for network infrastructure.
  • Perform layer 1 troubleshooting
  • Support carrier testing of circuits.
  • Assist with facilities efforts.
  • Power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoral.
  • Water problems.
  • Emergency cooling restoration.
  • Fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post fire events.
  • Act as an interface, as needed, between associates at the applicable location and centralized project / operations / MAC management.
