About The Position

The City of Fresno is offering a dynamic career opportunity for a progressive IT professional who will support the department’s strategic vision, connectivity and enterprise solutions to fulfill the City’s information technology objectives in enhancing services to the community. Under supervision, Network Systems Specialists install, configure, monitor and maintain the City's data networking infrastructure; analyze and modify overall network operations to ensure the highest level of uptime, integrity and security. The ideal applicant should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: - Administration of Windows Servers - Microsoft Exchange Administration - Cisco UCCX Administration - VMware Administration - Cisco Switching, Routing, Firewalls, Wireless, UCS - Software Defined Networking - Linux Administration - Identity Management Tools - Microsoft SQL Server Administration - SAN Storag - Large-Scale Deployments - Network Security - Mobility and Mobile Vehicle Computer - DevOps - Microsoft365 Administration - Scripting - Fiber Optics - Business Analyst Skills The current vacancy will be serving the City of Fresno’s Information Service Department (ISD) and reporting to the Information Services Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience gained as a Computer Systems Specialist with the City of Fresno; OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, computer engineering or a related field and Three (3) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and design of networking equipment, network communications, servers, computer data storage and back-up systems. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License required at time of appointment.
  • Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.
  • The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a Department interview, an extensive pre-employment background and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

Responsibilities

  • DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Program): an optional, voluntary program that allows an employee to deposit retirement benefits in a special savings account within the Retirement System while continuing to work for the City of Fresno for up to 10 years. Participation minimum is age 50 and vested. Benefits includes ownership of accumulated funds, compound interest earnings, and alternative distribution options.
