About The Position

The Network/System Administrator position at GovCIO involves supporting the United States Air Force Academy's Computer Science Department by ensuring the smooth operation of computer systems and networks. This role requires maintaining system integrity, upgrading systems, and implementing security measures to protect data and hardware. The administrator will also be responsible for troubleshooting issues, coordinating maintenance activities, and documenting operational procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma with 3 - 6 years of experience or commensurate experience.
  • Strong experience maintaining Linux server systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing issues with Windows 7 and later operating systems.
  • Comfortable using network troubleshooting tools to address issues in Linux routers.
  • Adaptable with strong research skills, capable of efficiently addressing and resolving unforeseen challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with VMware products including VCenter and VSphere.
  • Experience with Terraform.
  • Experience with Omada or similar enterprise Wi-Fi solutions.
  • Experience with Windows Active Directory (AD) and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain smooth operation of computer systems in networked or stand-alone configurations.
  • Maintain system integrity and upgrade systems and/or servers as required.
  • Create and document new methods supporting network/system operations and implement changes to procedures.
  • Consult with support teams and customers in the resolution of problems.
  • Coordinate and perform operation and/or maintenance activities for networks/servers.
  • Identify recurring problems and recommend steps to reduce their severity or frequency.
  • Plan for the transition of development and/or production environments to new technologies.
  • Utilize system software to monitor the performance of system files.
  • Manage system data to maintain performance efficiencies.
  • Study system requirements to determine proper server installation methods and procedures.
  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network/system security measures.
  • Provide regular monitoring and analysis regarding short and long-range planning for in-house systems.
  • Prepare or ensure that appropriate documentation exists, including operational instructions.
  • Write or modify basic scripts to resolve performance problems and automate administration tasks.
  • Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations.
