GovCIO is currently hiring for a Senior Network/System Engineer to lead day-to-day operations and lifecycle management of high availability physical and virtual simulation environments supporting training and mission systems at the United States Air Force Academy. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO and will be an onsite position. Responsibilities Establishes and maintains smooth operation of computer systems (to include operating systems, software and hardware) in networked or stand-alone configurations, maintains system integrity, and upgrades systems and/or servers as required. May create and document new methods supporting network/system operations and implement changes to procedures. Consults with support teams, help desks, customers and other technical staff in the resolution of problems, coordinates and performs operation and/or maintenance activities for networks/servers, identifies recurring problems and recommends steps to reduce the severity or frequency of problems. May plan for the transition of development and/or production environments to new technologies, utilize system software to monitor the performance of system files, manage system data to maintain performance efficiencies and/or study system requirements to determine proper server installation methods and procedures. Platform Operations & Reliability: Operate, tune, and maintain servers, storage, networking, and hypervisors to meet a 99% availability target; perform capacity planning and platform lifecycle tasks. Active Directory Management: Design, administer, and troubleshoot Active Directory environments (user/group lifecycle, OU design, Group Policy, domain controllers, replication, trusts, LDAP/Kerberos authentication). Virtualization & VDI: Manage VM lifecycle (templates, imaging, patching, cloning), VDI broker integration, and GPU-enabled workstation/VDI workloads. Automation & Scripting: Create and maintain automation for provisioning, patching, monitoring and incident response using PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or similar tools. Troubleshooting & Escalation: Lead complex incident investigation and remediation across Windows, Linux, storage and networking stacks; produce RCA and durable fixes. Backup, DR & Monitoring: Administer backup/restore solutions, DR exercises and telemetry/monitoring pipelines to ensure data protection and observability. Thin Client & Audio/Video Integration: Provision and support thin clients and AV/mission hardware; ensure cross-domain interoperability with simulation middleware and telemetry capture. Documentation & Mentorship: Own runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge base materials; coordinate cross-functional handoffs.
