As a paid Summer Intern for the Performance Measures team, students will experience life as a full-time employee, working on impactful, real-life assignments and projects that apply their skills and education. The Network Strategy, Design & Innovation (NSD&I) team focuses on improving BNSF's service quality, operational efficiency, profitability, and network expansion. As a part of this larger team, the Ops Measures team delivers reports, tools, and analytics, designs performance reporting systems, employs analytical techniques, and recommends improvements to enhance productivity, playing a key role in supporting long-term initiatives. Successful Interns may be hired as full-time Management Trainees upon graduation.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and will be at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire.
  • Does not require BNSF’s assistance, now or in the future, to obtain, maintain, or extend employment authorization.
  • Pursuing a Bachelors or Graduate degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, OR a similar degree program from an accredited university.
  • Have and will maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  • Have LESS THAN three (3) years of professional work experience/military experience, EXCLUDING internships, part-time jobs, or positions held while pursuing my undergraduate and/or graduate degree.
  • Have access to reliable transportation for the duration of the internship to and from my assigned BNSF location.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior intern experience or less than 3 years of work experience in Data Science, Technology or a related field.
  • Have or have held a leadership position in a campus, community, or extracurricular organization.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and developing performance reporting systems and analytical techniques for rail operations.
  • Providing analytical support to Network Strategy, Design, Innovation, and Transportation leaders on train, yard, and block volume changes, car velocity and utilization, terminal, and train operational performance, and blocking integrity.
  • Participating in transportation services analyses and building presentations for internal and external distribution.
  • Performing timely analysis and communicating complex material effectively.
  • Possess leadership, teamwork, clear communication, adaptability, and resilience to overcome obstacles and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
