About The Position

The Network Specialist (Fire Rescue) position involves technical work focused on maintaining, designing, enhancing, and researching network systems, PC hardware and software, and data communications within the Alachua County Fire Rescue Department. The role requires a strong customer service orientation and the ability to work under emergency conditions, including on-call availability. The specialist will be responsible for installing, supporting, and maintaining mobile computer and networking equipment, as well as providing technical assistance and training to users.

Requirements

• Associate of Science degree in computer science or a bachelor's degree in computer science or a directly related field.
• One year of networking experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Valid Florida Driver License with a Motor Vehicle Record that meets Alachua County policy requirements.
• Successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with major types of network operating systems and PC operating systems (Windows, MacOS, etc.).
• Knowledge of information research techniques and available resources.

Responsibilities

• Install, support, and maintain mobile computer and networking equipment and software in emergency response apparatus.
• Evaluate, implement, and support network systems, mobile network systems, and PC hardware and software.
• Analyze user requirements and propose network, PC hardware, or software solutions to meet those needs.
• Provide customers with technical assistance and training to fulfill their information requests.
• Analyze information from users to modify and simplify current and future technology used in network systems support.
• Drive a county or personal vehicle to perform required duties.
