About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position performs diagnostic imaging examinations on patients, ensuring the production of quality diagnostic images. The technologist operates equipment to produce diagnostic images according to patient cases and relevant guidelines, ensuring the quality of images is satisfactory for clinical purposes. The role involves ensuring accurate patient positioning during radiographic procedures and conducting image operations according to provider requests and other technical factors. It also requires implementing radiation safety guidelines and conducting proper radiation protection practices during the imaging process. The technologist is responsible for delivering excellent patient care and education before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures. The ability to understand and navigate the electronic medical record (EMR) system is essential. Willingness to perform additional duties as assigned is also required. Sanford Rural Health Network Facility sites may expand job responsibilities based on the needs of the facility, to include, but not limited to: on-call rotation nights, weekends, and holidays. The role involves performing diagnostic radiology procedures and basic diagnostic radiology tasks, and being aware of general radiology protocols. The technologist may also perform mobile imaging, electrocardiogram (EKG), cardiac monitor placement, and dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) procedures.

Requirements

  • Completion of an educational program accepted by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Working knowledge of diagnostic radiographic principles, including radiographic positioning, film/image processing, quality control, and radiation protection
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure with the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board (NDMIRT)
  • If working in South Dakota, candidates must obtain their ARRT certification within 60 days of hire
  • In the state of Iowa, all technologists must have a permit to practice through the Iowa Department of Public Health
  • If working at some clinic locations, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification may be required within the first eight weeks of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic imaging examinations on patients, ensuring the production of quality diagnostic images
  • Operates equipment to produce diagnostic images according to patient cases and relevant guidelines
  • Ensures the quality of images is satisfactory for clinical purposes
  • Ensures accurate patient positioning during radiographic procedures
  • Conducts image operations according to provider requests and other technical factors
  • Implements radiation safety guidelines and conducts proper radiation protection practices during the imaging process
  • Delivers excellent patient care and education before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures
  • Understands and navigates the electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
  • Participates in on-call rotation nights, weekends, and holidays (as needed by facility)
  • Performs diagnostic radiology procedures
  • Performs basic diagnostic radiology tasks and is aware of general radiology protocols
