About The Position

ONLY PERMANENT EMPLOYEES IN THE TITLE AND THOSE THAT ARE REACHABLE ON THE PUBLIC HEALTH EPIDEMIOLOGIST CIVIL SERVICE LIST ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. Division/Program Summary: The BTBC Office of Epidemiology reviews and assesses exposures in residential and non-residential congregate settings; conducts investigations in these settings to identify, notify and evaluate contacts and assess transmission; analyzes genomic and epidemiologic information to detect, investigate and respond to TB outbreaks; and conducts data analysis and research to describe the epidemiology of TB in NYC and to inform TB prevention and control policy. We are seeking a Public Health Epidemiologist to join our Network Epidemiology Team in the Office of Epidemiology. Position Summary: As an integral part of the team, the Public Health Epidemiologist will assist with case review, data analysis, and contact investigations in diverse site types across NYC, will be part of the decision-making process that leads to such investigations, and will support health education and linkage to care.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in public health or epidemiology from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 12 graduate credits in epidemiology; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university plus two years of full-time paid experience as a health professional in a position which requires data collection and the reading and interpretation of medical charts and medical information in support of surveillance and epidemiologic investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Review and enter data in the Health Department’s TB surveillance and case management system.
  • Work closely with the Expanded TB Contact Investigation and TB Case Management teams to review information for highly suspected and confirmed cases and support timely, data-driven and effective individual- and cohort-level TB care and response activities.
  • Systematically review case records to identify and assess potential TB exposures and facilitate timely public health intervention.
  • Support TB contact investigations in residential and non-residential congregate settings (e.g., worksites, schools, shelters), including contact identification, notification, education, and care coordination.
  • Assess results of investigations to determine if further expansion or public health intervention is warranted.
  • Conduct routine and ad hoc data analysis and present data to internal audiences.
  • Other duties as required.
