The Telecommunications Network Engineer position is an entry-level role focused on the maintenance and sustainment of existing networks. The engineer will be responsible for identifying and correcting network issues, resolving problems, and monitoring data or voice system networks. This role requires a TS/SCI polygraph clearance and involves operating various network analyzers and test equipment to ensure network reliability and performance.

  • Perform maintenance and sustainment of existing networks.
  • Identify and correct network issues.
  • Resolve network problems using scripts and standard procedures.
  • Operate network analyzers, WAN test equipment, and network simulators.
  • Monitor data or voice system networks for messages, alarms, or issues.
  • Activate scripts as alarms occur or issues surface.
  • Confirm accuracy of messages, alarms, or issues and determine severity.
  • Initiate resolution as appropriate for identified problems.
  • Troubleshoot problems and escalate as necessary.
  • Research issues to determine if they can be resolved using predefined procedures.
  • Document results of issue resolution.
  • Communicate alarms or issues and actions taken to resolve them.
  • Execute scheduled maintenance routines according to standard procedures.
  • Activate/deactivate network lines according to established schedules.
  • Perform first- and/or second-level problem determination.
  • Interface with users and/or network vendors.
  • Two (2) years of experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • AA in engineering technology from an accredited college is required.
  • Two (2) years of additional network engineering experience may be substituted for an Associate's degree.
  • Experience with installation and configuration of network devices such as firewalls, switches, routers, cabling, Cisco, Brocade, or Juniper devices is a plus.
  • Experience supporting WAN technologies such as SONET (OC3, OC48, OC192), DS3, T1, etc.
  • Experience with Taclanes/KG-175, etc.
  • Experience with MPLS, BGP, VPNs, etc.
  • Must be a US CITIZEN.
  • CompTIA Network+ certification
  • CCENT certification

  • CCNP certification
  • CCIE certification or equivalent
