Vestas American Wind Technology, Inc. is seeking a Network Engineer in Portland, OR. The role involves using computer-aided design (CAD) software to optimize computer network designs and performing Wind Power Plant Network Design and buildout to meet the specifications of proprietary Vestas SCADA systems and turbines. The Network Engineer will participate in network technology upgrade and expansion projects, including the installation of hardware, software, and integration testing. Responsibilities include providing network expertise to migrate and update network infrastructures, configuring routing and switching protocols, developing network security measures, maintaining networks, troubleshooting Vestas' SCADA Network, and communicating local network requirements to developers. The position also involves supporting and mentoring Network Administrators and evaluating network designs for efficiency and effectiveness. The role requires research and testing of new or modified hardware and software products, as well as attending conferences and training sessions to stay updated with technological changes.

  • Use CAD software to optimize computer network designs.
  • Perform Wind Power Plant Network Design and buildout.
  • Participate in network technology upgrade and expansion projects.
  • Provide network expertise to migrate and update network infrastructures.
  • Configure routing and switching protocols.
  • Develop and recommend network security measures.
  • Maintain networks by performing activities such as file addition, deletion, and backup.
  • Troubleshoot all aspects of Vestas' SCADA Network.

  • Research and test new or modified hardware and software products.
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field, and 5 years of post-bachelor's, progressive related work experience; OR a Master's degree or foreign equivalent in the same fields and 3 years of related work experience.
  • 3 years of experience with Cisco network hardware devices, including firewalls, routers, switches, and load balancers.
  • 3 years of experience configuring routing protocols, including OSPG and BGP.
  • 3 years of experience configuring switching protocols, including VLANs, STP, RSTP, and MST.
  • 3 years of experience implementing and troubleshooting LAN, WAN, and spanning technologies for redundant communication loops.
  • 3 years of experience upgrading CISCO IOS firmware and software.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching certification.
