About The Position

The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and ongoing support of Core Natural Resources’ enterprise and remote-site network infrastructure. This role plays a critical part in maintaining reliable, secure, and scalable connectivity across corporate offices, datacenters, and geographically dispersed operational sites, including mining and industrial environments. This position reports to the Manager of IS&T Infrastructure and works closely with systems engineers, security teams, vendors, and site personnel to support day-to-day operations, integration efforts, and long-term infrastructure modernization initiatives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise networking roles
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, and wireless technologies
  • Experience supporting firewalls and security appliances (Palo Alto experience strongly preferred)
  • Experience with Aruba switching and wireless platforms (or comparable enterprise solutions)
  • Solid understanding of VLANs, routing protocols, NAT, VPNs, and network segmentation
  • Experience supporting geographically distributed and remote sites
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex, multi-layer network issues
  • Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Strong hands-on experience with Palo Alto firewalls (PCNSE or equivalent experience strongly preferred)
  • Experience with SD-WAN solutions
  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts (Azure networking, VPN gateways, ExpressRoute, etc.)
  • Experience with network monitoring platforms (SolarWinds, LogicMonitor, or similar)
  • Strong documentation skills, including creating clear and accurate network diagrams
  • Proficiency with Visio or similar network diagramming tools
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, PCNSE, Aruba certifications)

Responsibilities

  • Network Design & Architecture

  • Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise and site-level network architectures, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, and SD-WAN environments
  • Support ongoing network consolidation and modernization initiatives resulting from mergers and acquisitions
  • Develop standard network designs for remote and industrial sites, balancing reliability, security, and operational constraints
  • Participate in network capacity planning, lifecycle management, and refresh initiatives
  • Network Operations & Support
  • Administer and support network hardware including firewalls, switches, routers, wireless access points, and cellular or backup connectivity
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot VLANs, routing, NAT, and firewall policies
  • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot site-to-site VPN tunnels and remote-access VPN solutions
  • Provide day-to-day operational support for Palo Alto firewall environments, including rule changes, troubleshooting traffic flows, and analyzing logs
  • Support remote access technologies such as GlobalProtect and Azure/AOVPN-style solutions
  • Troubleshoot complex network issues across corporate, datacenter, and remote locations
  • Create and update network diagrams using tools such as Visio (experience with Visio or similar diagramming tools is a plus)
  • Develop and improve SOPs, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides
  • Participate in on-call rotations and planned maintenance windows
